One may fear that the products from urban agricultural projects in Paris will be available for a very restricted category of the population. Indeed, Aubry and Daniels’ article tell us that most of the projects are either targeting “top of the range” customers or sold at the organic market value in very specific places.

Moreover, even if some UA projects like the one in AgroParisTech are reaching high productivity levels, the overall production from urban agricultural projects is likely to remain quite low. Therefore very few people will be able to benefit from UA products. In addition to that, the lack of public support regarding urban large-scale projects, as shown in Spetch et al.’s article, may prevent products from these short supply chains to be widely available for a diverse population.

Therefore, how can we make UA more socially inclusive? How can we ensure that products from urban agricultural projects will be available to everyone, disregarding their social class or their financial resources? Should public authorities intervene to develop UA projects in poor neighbourhoods or should we trust private actors?
