Is Star Wars still science fiction? In the article by Joan Johnson-Freese in Nature.com, the author writes that “Space-resource ownership and traffic need to be managed”. So, we can wonder if space wars are inevitable in the future (as a consequence of the fight for metals or minerals exploitation for instance) and thereof if more rules are needed to regulate and manage the space environment? What should be these rules to ensure the exploitation (if there is an exploitation) is sustainable? And finally, we can wonder who should be the legitimate body to write down these rules: the United Nations? the European Union (in a regional logic)? Every State or regional organisation separately? An ad-hob international body specially created for this purpose?
