It is true that microalgae has a lot of benefits and can be used as a food supplement and biofuel better than any before it. But isn’t there a risk of turning algae into some kind of holy grail capable of solving all of the problems of humankind? The problems of food supply can be solved today also as enough food is produced. The problems is the distribution of that production in light of the pursuit of maximization of profits. So why is the introduction of another “super ingredient” going to change that? There were talks about eradicating famine in the previous century with the introduction of more sophisticated agricultural technology and GMO yet little has changed.
