On the one hand, government’s investments are today constrained by public debt. For instance, the current debt of the United States accounts for more than 100% of the US GDP. The government thus need to make choices when drafting the budget – savings must be made, all the policies needed will not be financed.

In this context, some people started to be vocal against space budget : why would the government spend billions in space missions while the poverty rate keeps increasing in the country ? While some people still do not get access to health security ? To education ?

On the other hand, private companies are investing more and more in space exploration – that appears to them as a highly profitable market.

Crossing these two tendencies, could we assume that in a near future private companies investment in space exploration will be more important than government investment ? What could be the consequences in terms of regulation ?
